Futureshop Announces Two More Possible Steelbooks

Take it with a grain of salt, seeing how Brana’s last unofficial confirmation ended up not being a reality, we’ll just leave it as a possible Steelbook. Brana has announced Angelina Jolie’s Salt and Family Guy’s It’s A Trap for Blu-ray Steelbook. You can check out the posts here and here.

Seeing as Fox has a strict no exclusive release policy, is important to support the few Fox titles in order to get more, just like Brana mentions in the post below.

Brana’s quote:

This one is important for us as it’s the first Steelbook we’ve been able to do in ages since Fox has had a no exclusive hence no steelbook policy. If this one is a success we might be able to see more Fox Steelbooks in the future. I mean like Alien singles ….

Resident Evil Steelbooks at Futureshop!

Out of nowhere a worker at Futureshop began alerting everyone about the Resident Evil movies receiving a Steelbook treatment in Canada. All four films will be available Friday August 27 in store, although I am receiving reports that customers are walking in and asking for them and buying them now. Resident Evil, Resident Evil:Apocalypse, Resident Evil: Extinction, and Resident Evil: Degeneration are all separate Steelbooks.

No Country For Old Men Blu-ray SteelBook

Much like our findings of the Gangs of New York Blu-ray SteelBook that HMV.ca has posted a listing for we have also found that they have one for No Country For Old Men too. Germany has just recently released their version of the No Country For Old Men Blu-ray Steelbook edition with the last batch of 13 Paramount steelbooks that released on August 19th and this will mark the 2nd for this great title. The artwork is just a place holder so we presume so no idea if the steel will resemble that of the German version. This title is set to release on September 28th collectively with the Gangs of New York blu-ray steelbook. Keep your eyes peeled to HMV.ca as more titles may soon appear. *fingers crossed*

This title is being released from Alliance. Alliance was best known in the Canadian SteelBook market for releasing the beauty which is Inglourious Basterds FutureShop edition.

It’s sunday, and by Monday this will be posted all around the internet. It’s crazy how fast Steelbook news passes all around the web on sites from many different countries. No matter where your from, it seems our love for Steelbooks breaks down language barriers.

This was just something I’ve stumbled upon, enjoy.

HMV.ca has a listing scheduled to release on September 28th. It clearly states blu-ray and Steelbook! In addition to this, there is also a listing on the news we have broke on a No Country For Old Men Blu-ray SteelBook soon to come.

Futureshop Not Releasing Disney Steelbooks in 2010

In what came to be an unexpected change of events, when everyone was getting ready to receive good news regarding future Disney Steelbooks from Futureshop, things just took a different route. Today Brana, Futureshop’s Product Buyer, announced that Disney did not allow their future releases in 2010 to be released in Steelbook form, but in Ironpaks instead. This comes completely unexpected since the last 12 Weeks of Disney was very successful. Anyway, check below for the statement.

This has really been a year in flux with massive changes on the studios side on their willingness to do Steelbooks, how much of international gets involved and what it takes to make a Steelbook happen. Disney has unfortunately decided corporately against Steelbook this year. I can’t even give a real explanation to be honest with you. At some point you get angry and it all sounds like excuses. The best way I can describe it is the U.S. got involved to help push exclusive packaging as well and so we can take advantage of economies of scale. In dong so, senior people became involved with Steelbook that were not before, legal teams threw their four cents in, and next thing you know there is no Steelbook program period. Even with all the success we had last year and the excitement you guys all showed for it we just couldn’t make it happen. A massive fail.

To make things worse, what was approved was an Ironpak promotion which had made it’s way through all the pipelines so far that once this was presented to us and we knew what was up, we had no room to move. The choice we were given was either we take the Ironpaks or you have nothing for these titles. It was a tough decision but at the end of the day I looked at it from the standpoint that as much as I want these on Steelbook and there are many people on here as well, I’d rather these exist in some sort of collectible packaging than not at all. Let the customer have the decision if they want them or not. So that’s where things are at. Disney Canada does realize this is a massive fail and understand we need to get back to Steelbook so those are the discussions that are ongoing now. Again I cannot promise anything but we are working towards Tron 2.

The Ironpaks that are coming out are labelled as Disney Collectible packaging. These are the titles that are coming:

Beauty & The Beast – Oct 5
Toy Story 1 – October
Toy Story 2 – October
Toy Story 3 – Nov 2
Princess & The Frog – November
Alice in Wonderland – November/December

Something is better than nothing for the consumer, I applaud the ability to still provide the customer with a choice. Anyway, while some may look at this as a negative, others may find it a positive so to each its own. Can’t blame Brana for not trying.

Robin Hood Blu-ray SteelBook Officially Announced at FutureShop

Recently confirmed is the Robin Hood Blu-ray SteelBook (blu-ray sized case) to be released at FutureShop. (retailer in Canada) This edition comes with the Directors Cut and also has a DVD Copy and Digital Copy!

[Update] Prince of Persia Blu-ray SteelBook Surfaces on FutureShop Listing

Much like how Beauty and the Beast surfaced on the website for Canadian retailer FutureShop, Prince of Persia has done the same thing. Below is a picture we got from our forum member, Apsmith.

The title is set to release on Sept. 14th. Now we will just play a waiting game to see it pop back up on the retailers website for it to become official.

It seems that FutureShop is soon going to announce the release of Beauty and the Beast Blu-ray in collectors steelbook form. According to Apsmith on our forums he saw the listing yesterday and was able to snag some screenshots before the listing was pulled.

Those familiar with the 12 Weeks of Disney promotion they ran last year will notice the uncanny resemblance this box art has with the Snow White Steelbook release. Its possible this could be another empty SteelBook case available for pre-order only.
